Like Fathers, Like Son DL and Story Links

Like Fathers, Like Son Cover

Xan Dawson is used to getting what he wants, and what he desperately wants right now is to attend the party of the year. Unfortunately, that party will be filled with drugs and alcohol and all sorts of other things that no sixteen-year-old should be doing. When his vampire fathers tell him no—a word he doesn’t hear from them very often—he temporarily succumbs to his inner brat and reacts in a way that he can never take back. The best he can hope for is that he will be forgiven.

This is a Harborview Immortals prequel short story. It contains references to Family Matters, as well as possible nods to the other Extra stories in this series.

Contains mild adult content.

Oops

You know that “I’m forgetting to do something” feeling? Yeeeah, so that’s why there was no TBT post yesterday. In my defense, I thought about it at various points during the day but then I got home and started watching Dogma (R.I.P. Alan Rickman, you brilliant, amazing, sexily-voiced man 😦 ), then I got distracted even further—surprisingly easy for me—and then I went to bed. My bad. I’ll do better next week… as long as I remember.

Like Fathers, Like Son is finished. January 31 is still the official posting date, but keep an eye out in case I get bored one night and decide to share it sooner. Once that is done, I’ll be neck deep in Book #2, which, unlike Family Matters, will be more of a novella length. Most of the stories moving forward will be; a part of the reason FM was 60k+ words long was to lay the groundwork for plots to come, some of which will intersect with future stories. I don’t have an ETA for #2 just yet. The writing part will be easy, but it’s all the stuff that comes afterwards that can take who knows how long. When I have an idea, I’ll let you know.

That’s all for now. Have a nice evening! ❤

Short Story Announcement: Like Fathers, Like Son

Xan Dawson is used to getting what he wants, and what he desperately wants right now is to attend the party of the year. Unfortunately, that party will be filled with drugs and alcohol and all sorts of other things that no sixteen-year-old should be doing. When his vampire fathers tell him no—a word he doesn’t hear from them very often—he temporarily succumbs to his inner brat and reacts in a way that he can never take back. The best he can hope for is that he will be forgiven.

I originally intended to save this for Father’s Day, but events in this story are briefly mentioned in #2 so I decided to publish it beforehand. Instead, I’ll save the erotic shorts for later. (Erotic short stories, because erotic shorts make me think about crotchless booty shorts or something like that, lol.)

Like Fathers, Like Son will be available to download and read online on January 31.

Small Packages DL and Story Links

Updated from original post on 12/18:

Small Packages Cover

Ah, Christmas Eve. For Jacob, it’s a time for enjoying the presence of his family and friends, making sure that Dominic doesn’t kill his twin brother, and silently hoping that his fourteen-year-old son doesn’t get a thousand tattoos when he grows up because apparently that’s the plan. But hey, at least there are gifts.

Gift-giving isn’t easy when two vampires with a lot of centuries between them have just about everything they could ever possibly need or want. But this year, Jacob has found the perfect gift for Dominic, one that will change both their lives, and he can’t wait to give it to him.

This is a Harborview Immortals prequel short story. While it contains references to Family Matters, no prior knowledge of the book is required.

Contains explicit content.

The Downloads & Story Links page has also been updated.

Okay, that’s it for this year but I’m already working on Book 2 plus a few other Extra stories, one of which I will probably publish in January if time is kind (and one is being reserved for the Smashwords release of Family Matters, whenever that is). In addition to all of that, there will also be those non-vampire stories I mentioned previously. What I’m basically trying to say is that I plan to throw a lot of stories your way in 2016. I hope you don’t mind. 😀

This is a special early posting for those of you who are following my blog and anyone else who happens to stumble across this entry. The story will be announced on social media and posted to the usual sites on 12/20.

Enjoy, and thank you so much for your support! ❤

The search for diversity

The other night, I went on an extensive search for interracial M/M stories. The “combination” made no difference to me; I just enjoy stories about couples who aren’t so… similar in their outward appearances. (Not that I mind when they are, because I don’t mind at all. Hell, most of the M/M books I own feature same-race couples.) I found some good suggestions thanks to Goodreads, but I also found a lot of stories in which some aspect of a character’s race or nationality was reduced to a fetish. Like the stash of stories I came across in which some poor, unsuspecting white guy was subjected to big, black cocks. Seriously, that was basically the tagline for some of them. It was like the authors gave zero fucks about developing their characters aside from what they had to offer between their legs. Then I had this mental image of Oprah bestowing big, black cocks upon her audience.

oprah“Everybody gets a big, black cock!”

*grins* I presume there’s an audience for that kind of stuff since it exists, but as for me, I’ll stick to characters who aren’t reduced to a stereotype of some sort.

Anyway, Small Packages is officially done. I’m thinking that I might publish it a day or two early for those of you who are following this blog before spreading the word on social media on 12/20. Because why not? And because thank you. ❤

Coming up in 2016

(Heh, coming—did I ever claim to be mature?)

Anyway, lest anyone think that I’m only capable of writing about vampires, I wanted to share some of the things on my plate for 2016:

  • Um, well, there’s Book 2 of the Harborview Immortals series. And yeah, that’ll have vampires in it, but moving on…
  • A story featuring a different kind of Harborview immortal. The angelic kind. (This will be based on an angel-verse I created years ago. More on that later.)
  • A story about two lifelong friends who end up on opposite sides of the law but manage to put aside their differences for one very special night.
  • A story about two members of a gang, ahem, I mean organization who explore what it really means to be “brothers.”

There are a few more  (shorter) things I’m contemplating right now, but the ones I listed are pretty much set in stone. It’s going to be a busy year.

An Unexpected Addition DL and Story Links

An Unexpected Addition Cover

Vampires Dominic and Jacob have been together for almost two hundred years. Despite the pain of their respective pasts, they now have tremendous wealth, power, and—most importantly—each other. However, thanks to a new business opportunity (and an impromptu quest for flavored lube), they’re about to discover the one thing that they’ve been missing in their long lives: fatherhood.

This is a Harborview Immortals prequel short story (I revised the hell out of it, causing it to lose its novelette status). While it contains references to Family Matters, no prior knowledge of the book is required.

The Downloads & Story Links page has also been updated. Please message me if you have trouble with any of the links.

(Lastly, because I’m kind of obsessive, the Family Matters downloads have been updated with versions that have properly centered scene breaks. It was keeping me up at nights, you have no idea. Sorry about the fail.)

Watt’s up?

For anyone so inclined, Family Matters can now also be read on Wattpad. The Downloads page has been updated to reflect this (and the posting dates of Unexpected Addition and Small Packages).

PS: And now BooksieSilk and Tablo, too!

And by Sunday, I really meant Saturday

cover

Family Matters is now a thing you can download! Details are here. (FYI, all free stories will be posted to that page moving forward.)

Multiple people tested each format on multiple devices, so I’m pretty confident that there should be no issues. I personally tested them all on my Kindle app (I had to manually move the MOBI file to my phone’s app folder, but then it opened just fine), my NOOK (it didn’t like PDF too much but that could be because my NOOK is old as hell), and my laptop. If you have any problems, please comment or shoot me a message at emmapetersonwrites at gmail dot com and I’ll get back to you asap!

Lastly, I don’t know exactly when I’ll publish this on Smashwords (with a new permanent cover and additional bonus content because why not?), but once I have an idea, you’ll be the first to know. 😀

Bad news, awesome news

The Smashwords release of Family Matters has been postponed until further notice, meaning at least until NaNoWriMo is over because dealing with this has been murder on my daily word count.

But!!!  Unless I get blindsided by a meteor *knock on wood* the book will be available for download this weekend—Sunday, most likely—in EPUB, MOBI, and PDF formats. So you will finally be able to get your virtual hands on the book. A week or so following this, An Unexpected Addition will also be made available for download; I decided to hold off on sharing this until after the book was out since it contains references to Family Matters that might be somewhat spoilerish to those of you who did not follow the story when it was previously posted online.

Finally… what do you give the vampire who has everything? Find out Jacob’s answer next month in Small Packages, a sweet and smutty Harborview Immortals short story. Because nothing says Christmas like vampires and porn, am I right? 😀
